NEW HAMPSHIRE AMATEUR SOFTBALL
ASSOCIATION - REGULATIONS
ARTICLE 1 - STATE ROSTERS
1.01 Official Championship Rosters for all teams, wishing to play in any NH ASA State Tournament, must be submitted at the state tournament draw meeting. The dates and locations for the state tournament draw are listed on the NH ASA web site (www.asa-nh.org).
1.02 No additions to, or deletions from, the roster will be allowed after these dates. Once a player has signed the roster, he may play with only that team, within a division, during state tournament play for that year.
NOTE:
1. The State Commissioner may delete players deemed ineligible, having
signed more than one roster, or for other
circumstances as deemed necessary.
ARTICLE 2 - INVITATIONAL, OPEN AND SPECIAL TOURNAMENTS
2.01 The sanctioning of all invitational, open and special tournaments will be done through the New Hampshire ASA State Commissioner only.
2.02 To sanction a tournament, you must submit a "Local League
Tournament Sanction Form" and verify that all teams entered are ASA
registered in their respective states.
2.03 All tournaments sanctioned by the New Hampshire ASA will adhere to the following provisions:
A. Conduct play in accordance with current ASA playing rules
with all exceptions; i.e., special rain
out provisions, run rules, etc., to be submitted with the sanction request and
to be announced
as part of the tournament sanctioning. Once the tournament
has been approved, all
information about the tournament must include that
“Tournament is sanctioned by the
NH ASA”. All press releases must also include this
information.
B. You must use only umpires currently registered with the ASA.
A list of umpires being used
should be sent to the NH ASA prior to the start of the
tournament.
C. Once the tournament is complete, a list of all teams and the
final standings should be sent to
the NH ASA State Office.
ARTICLE 3 - STATE TOURNAMENT CLASSIFICATIONS
NOTE: 1. The final decisions on all classifications will be made by the State Classification
Committee.2. The prime purpose of all team classifications will be to promote equitable and
consistent competition in divisions of play within our State. Of secondary
importance will be the relationship of these divisions to their counterparts in other
States within our Region.3. Adult Independent Teams (Teams not associated with an ASA League) who want to play
in an ASA State Tournament must register by June 1. They will be sent rosters and other
ASA info and must play in the highest division of play offered. If there is no state tournament
held, then they can be granted a bid to the national in any division higher than one granted to
an ASA league member. Team registrations will NOT be accepted at the State Draws.4. The State Commissioners Council will meet on the dates of the state tournament
draw, in open session, for the following purposes:a. Announce final classifications.
b. Hear appeals of a teams' classification.
c. Accept withdrawals from state tournament competition.
d. Award automatic state tournament byes, only to current defending champions.
Other byes, if necessary, will be determined by draw.e. Decide state tournament pairings by lot with the exception that, if possible, two
teams from the same league will not meet in the first round.5. Adult state tournaments will be conducted for any classification when needed to
determine advancing teams (i.e. to regional or nationals).6. Awards for adult state tournament play will be as follows:
a. 1st and 2nd place team trophies will be awarded in all tournaments. 3rd place
team trophies will be awarded in tournaments consisting of 20 or more teams.
4th place team trophies will be awarded in tournaments consisting of 30 or more
teams.b. Individual awards will be given to the 1st place team in all tournaments
consisting of 5 or less teams. Individual awards will be given to the 2nd place
team in all tournaments consisting of 6 or more teams.3.01 Men's Slow Pitch Classifications
NOTE: 1. Men's slow pitch will be classified by the ASA home run rule as outlined in the ASA
Official Guide and Playing Rules.A. Class A (Any team seeking a berth in the National Tournament must apply to the State Office, with roster, at the state tournament draw).
B. Class B (Any team seeking a berth in the National Tournament must apply to the State Office, with roster, at the state tournament draw).
NOTE: 1. There are 3 berths available for A and B teams.
C. Class C and Class D (Number of teams eligible to go to the Nationals TBD on a yearly basis).
D. Class E Rec (Number of teams eligible to go to the Nationals TBD on a yearly basis).
3.02 Men's 16 Inch Slow Pitch Classifications
A. Major, if held (1st place team goes to the Nationals).
3.03 Women's Slow Pitch Classifications
NOTE: 1. Classification will be at the option of each team, however, if a team demonstrates
during league and tournament play that it is superior to the classification it
requested, the Commissioners Council may move them up to a classification which
is deemed appropriate.3.04 Co-Ed Slow Pitch Classifications
A. Co-Ed Class A Slow Pitch (Any All-Star/Pick-up Co-Ed Team).
B. Co-Ed Class B Slow Pitch.
NOTE: 1. Teams must play in a Co-Ed ASA registered league (no pick-up/all-star teams).
3.05 Men's Modified Pitch Classifications
NOTE: 1. The number of returning players needed to allow a defending champion to receive
the at-large berth in a national tournament shall be in compliance with the definition
of "Defending Champion" as written in the ASA Code (Article 106).2. The NH ASA Modified Rules Committee may choose to run a 9 man, 10 man or both in
any modified classification.A. Class B.

3.06 Women's Modified Pitch Classifications
A. Class B.
B. Class C.
C. Class D.
3.07 Co-Ed Modified Pitch Classifications
A. To be classified by the New Hampshire Modified Pitch Rules Committee.
3.08 Men's and Women's Fast Pitch Classifications
A. Tournaments will be determined based on the number of registered teams.
3.09 Junior Olympic Classifications
A. Tournaments will be based on the age groups as defined in the ASA Official Guide and Playing
Rules, and will be held dependent on the number of entries.B. JO Girls Class B Fast Pitch: Teams and players who participate in Class A tournaments, or
higher, that lead to a National Championship Final, including National Qualifiers, shall not be
eligible to participate in the Class B competition. Girls Class B teams must be made up of
players who participate in the same league.1. What is a “league” and what is required to play in “B” state championship play:
a. A league should have by-laws and league officers.
b. A league must have multiple teams in the same age classifications (at least 3).
c. The entire number of teams in the league must be registered with the NHASA to enter a
“B” team in state championship play.d. It is the responsibility of the team coach/manager to provide all proof needed to the
NHASA to classify as a “B” team.
ARTICLE 4 - MISCELLANEOUS
4.01 Adult teams must submit, in person, an Official Championship Roster Form, and a bank check, money order or sponsors check (no personal checks) at the state tournament draw meeting.
4.02 Junior Olympic teams must submit, in
person, an Official Championship Roster Form, and a bank check, money order or
sponsors
check (no personal checks) at the state tournament draw meeting. Check
the NH ASA web site for additional JO requirements.
